Video Spotlight: "Memories of Gettysburg"
The Civil War battle of Gettysburg took place on July 1, 2 and 3, 1863. Carrie Suntken, one of our collaborative partners (and one of my dearest friends) has been to the battlefield countless times, and in March 2014 she invited me to experience it with her. Though we were only able to spend a short amount of time there, it was extremely inspirational.
I created this video spotlight for Carrie as a surprise gift using footage I took during our time there, along with photographs Carrie had in her files; a few of the older ones are from the Library of Congress. The song, "A Thousand Years" by Christina Perri, was one that Carrie played for me as we entered Gettysburg for the first time. It's a song that she always plays when she is there, and one she listens to when she's back home thinking of how she can't wait for her next visit. I found it very fitting, and for those that know the battlefield and its history, I'm sure you will pick up on how several of the lyrics match what is being shown in the video at a particular moment. For these "Easter Eggs" and more, please visit Carrie's website, www.thecivilwarproject.com, which gives a more detailed explanation along with some inspirational stories.
We realize not everyone is fortunate enough to visit such a place; we hope this video gives viewers a small feel for what it is like there.
